GBIC Transceivers convert electric currents (digital H/L) to optical signals, and also optical signals to digital electric currents reversibly. The GBIC Transceivers are applicable in fiber optic and Ethernet systems acting as interface for high-speed networking. The data transfer rate of GBIC Transceivers is one gigabit per second (1 Gbps) or more.GBIC Transceivers are employed for easy configuration and upgradation of electro-optical communications networks. The typical GBIC transceivers are plug-in modules that are hot-swappable, thus can be configured with system reboot. The GBIC Transceivers are economical and can be extended to any number of units simultaneously. GBIC transceivers work with CWDM and DWDM kinds of multiplexing and operate at frequency range of 1470 nm to 1610 nm.
